Video Endoscopy

Cain Veterinary Centre has just taken delivery of a new Video- Endoscopy system, which will further enhance our diagnostic capabilities. We now have a new bronchoscope, which is useful for looking down into the airways and lungs of both cats and dogs. This can also be used to look up into the back of the nose (nasopharynx), which is a difficult area to access, and it has already been put to good use to retrieve a grass blade from up a cat’s nose!

Ultrasound

This ultrasound scanner is of similar quality to those found in hospitals today. With ultrasound, we can look at certain organs in the chest and abdomen in detail, to give us an understanding of what is going on internally in our patients. We have a special interest in Cardiology (heart problems), and, with this machine, we can examine the inside of the heart in detail, assess chamber sizes, valve function, wall thicknesses, and even measure the velocity (speed of blood flow)  and direction of blood flow within specific areas of the heart.

Operating Theatre

Our operating theatre is a strictly controlled aseptic room, fully equipped with some of the most advanced anaesthetic and monitoring equipment currently available. We have set rigorous standards for our theatre practices, and all operations are carried out by a surgeon wearing appropriate theatre suits, hat, mask, gloves and theatre only shoes. This is still not a routine in many veterinary practices!

Laboratory

We have an in- house laboratory which is capable of producing blood haematology and biochemistry results within minutes- this can be a life-saver  in establishing a diagnosis in critically ill patients, as the facilities are accessible 24 hrs per day, 365 days of the year.

Dental

Dental health is important to the well-being of your pet. A dental can be arranged, subject to pre-anaesthetic evaluation. This would involve a scale, polish and any necessary extractions using an air-driven dental machine. Preventive healthcare advice is free when a consultation is made with any of the practice nurses.

Dental Radiography

In 2014, we also invested in a dental X ray generator which links into our digital X ray system, further enhancing the service we can offer in dentistry.
